On a conventional wedding day, one of the final batch of photographs we take is at the start of the evening reception, the cake cutting. As mention in a previous page of this album, we try to set up a staged cake cutting photograph under controlled conditions. This is one of the few staged photographs we take as staged pictures are not our thing! The reason for this is we can control the situation and get a better photograph for the couple. The lighting is not always ideal and the wedding guests always seem in a panic for the couple to cut the cake before we or the bride and groom are ready, and this doesn’t always make for the best photograph for the clients, who after all are the ones paying!
The two images on this wedding album page show the cake in the evening reception room ready for the start of the evening reception and our bride and groom poised and ready to cut. On this occasion we did have a little control over the proceedings but the background with the DJ booth is hardly ideal meaning that the couple have a choice of cake cutting images to use.
