Sheffield has some amazing places to photograph weddings and there are some truly fantastic wedding venues in and around the city in which to get married. As wedding photographers living and working out of Sheffield, we have been to many but by no means all these of these wonderful wedding venues. Since embarking on our wedding photography adventures back in 2005 we have been to so many wonderful locations capturing wedding day imagery for our couples.
One new venue we were asked to photograph a wedding at is the J. G. Graves Woodland Discovery Centre in Ecclesall Woods on the outskirts of Sheffield. This photograph is one of my favourites from the wedding day. The photograph was taken following the wedding ceremony in a wonderful and tranquil part of Ecclesall Woods not very far from the discovery centre. Ecclesall Woods is a lovely part of our home city and somewhere we would never have thought it possible to hold a wedding ceremony a few years ago, it really is a beautiful wedding venue and a great place for us to take some pictures afterwards. Our job as wedding photographers really does take us to some wonderful and interesting places and we get the chance to meet some really fantastic people.
This was the first wedding we had photographed at the Discovery Centre and despite it being less than a mile from home, was an area we had not explored nearly enough in recent years though it was a firm favourite place to play during my childhood. The discovery centre nestles amongst the ancient surrounding woodland, providing a beautiful backdrop for some post wedding photography with our fantastic bride and groom. This centre is an amazing venue for something a little different or for those who love nature and the outdoors. A wonderful place to tie the knot outside in Sheffield, somewhere quite different to anywhere else in Sheffield or anywhere else that we have photographed weddings.
Wedding photography has taken us to some amazing venues in Sheffield as well as the surrounding region and beyond. We have been thrilled to be asked by the wonderful couples we have met, to photograph their weddings whilst visiting an ever-growing list of new and exciting venues. We have heard of many but not all of these and being given the opportunity to photograph weddings at them makes our job extremely rewarding. We still love to work at some tried and true favourites, but we are never afraid to step up to photograph somewhere new.
We took the opportunity of being in this wonderfully captivating and tranquil location to take some photographs for our happy couple during these quiet few minutes together following their wedding. This is an excellent time to take some photographs as the wedding guests move on from the wedding ceremony to the venue for the wedding reception. Our couples find taking this time together is a positive experience as it allows them time to relax and reflect together on their new status of being a married couple! It is also an excellent time to use our photography skills to create some memorable images of the newlyweds for their future as they begin their new life together. Following this short photo session our couple headed towards the rest of their exciting day together with family and friends.
We have photographed many weddings in and around Sheffield over the years, but this was our first woodland wedding and what a wonderful occasion it was for all of us! Following the wedding ceremony at the J. G. Graves Woodland Discovery Centre and a quick photo shoot in Ecclesall Woods which is the home to the centre, we moved into Derbyshire for some more photographs. The first stop off for our couple was overlooking the Hope Valley from “The Surprise View”. From here we moved on to Padley Gorge for some photographs on the new bridge over the stream. The Surprise View offers some stunning views across the Hope Valley, over Hathersage and beyond and makes a different backdrop for wedding images. Padley Gorge is a beautiful and relaxing location and a super special place to visit (except on a sunny bank holiday Monday!)
Our final destination for us on this busy wedding day was Woodthorpe Hall which is situated near Dronfield in Derbyshire. The couple had arranged to have their wedding reception in a wonderful tipi in the grounds of Woodthorpe Hall. There were the usual family formal photographs, speeches, the wedding breakfast, and dancing late into the night to the sounds of the fantastic Roger the Badger a local ceilidh band. To round off the evening the Woodthorpe Hall speciality, the famous shopping trolley bonfire! If you like the images from this wedding, then we created a wedding album which shows in greater depth this wedding from start to finish! Many of the guests then made use of the adjoining camp site and spent the night close to Woodthorpe Hall on a wonderful and warm summers evening.
