The photograph above is one taken at Whirlow Brook Hall on the outskirts of Sheffield back in June 2020. This was our first wedding back photographing after the lifting of restrictions following the first lockdown in the UK. Back then, only 30 guests were allowed to attend weddings, and that included Deborah and I who were photographing the wedding! It was so great to be back doing what we love, photographing and documenting wedding days for amazing couples like these seen here embracing just after being pronounced as ‘Husband and Wife’ following their wedding ceremony.
Whirlow Brook Hall is one of our favourite wedding venues, and not only because it is one of the nearest wedding venues to our home! Whirlow Brook Hall is in the magnificent Whirlow Brook Park which provides us with some beautiful backdrops in which to create some memorable photographs for our couples through which they can look back and remind themselves of their wedding day for years to come.
When I’m photographing on a wedding, I always try to be watching the couple closely during the ceremony to try catch those split-second moments of emotion during the ceremony, or when the celebrant announces them to be a married couple. This can be a highly emotional moment, frequently bursting with love, happiness and excitement as well as a really funny one as the couple let the fact that they are now married start to sink in.
The bride in this image was so happy to have finally tied the knot following many delays due to the lockdown chaos and the venue having to reschedule numerous times through no fault of their own back in those dark days of 2021. It was such a pleasure to finally photograph this wedding for the couple and their family and friends, and to be there for the couple to help guide them through their day as wedding photography is frequently as much about using your experience of wedding days as it is about photographing it!
