Whitley Hall Hotel Wedding Photography

This image of our couple in the grounds of the spectacular Whitley Hall Hotel on the outskirts of Sheffield is one of my favourite images from the day. The sunlight through the trees forming little pools of light contrasts nicely with the green of the mid-summer foliage. I class this as Fine Art Wedding Photography, it is a style of wedding photography where the image created to be a piece of art in its own right.

Whitley Hall is a wonderful wedding venue and one of our favourite places to photograph a wedding. The sixteenth century hall has to be one of the oldest building in Sheffield used for wedding ceremonies and the grounds are so spectacular and welcoming it makes it a wonderful place for us to undertake our work, while our couples get on with the day's events. We have photographed a number of wedding here now and much like one of our other favourite Sheffield venues, Kenwood Hall Hotel, we find something new to explore each and every time we visit. This time we explored a short way up a path we probably shouldn't have been on but to create an image like this it was worth being a little naughty!

The image was captured with one of my oldest cameras, the crop sensor Nikon D300 complete with my Nikon 85mm f/1.4. I was curious to see how 127.5mm equivalent focal length and the resultant equivalent f/2 depth of field would look. Apart from the terrible focus issues resulting in most of the images being out of focus the look of the ones that were in focus is pleasing, might even persuade me to purchase a Nikon 105mm f/1.4 or Sigma 135mm f/1.8 and do the job properly on full frame!

The Whitley Hall Hotel is located in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, UK on Elliott Lane, S35 8NR. Their Website can be found at https://www.whitleyhall.com
